Hi, I am Collette.
A Kent based family photographer who loves to capture emotion, joy, connection, families, newborn moments, relationships and character.
As a teenager on a holiday to visit family in Ireland, I eagerly took control of the camera and had the role of capturing images of a gathering with extended family. When the film was processed my Dad wasn’t too pleased with the quality of what came out; his disappointment and frustration was apparent. My Dad knew the value of pictures capturing moments and relationships and the blurry, shaky images were not the beautiful capture of precious moments that he was hoping for.
My Dad died when I was just 17 and I understand now even more why photographs were so important to him. They capture memories and enable moments to be re-lived. Photographs are also the way my children can know their Grandad, and they are a reminder to me of the way he looked at my brother and I, the experiences we had and the many stories that a picture can remind us of.
Thankfully my photography skills have significantly improved from those blurry ones I took all those years ago in Ireland and I have grown to love documenting my own family. It is really important to me to take photographs that show the personalities of my children and capture the details, connection and relationships between us. I love a photo to tell a story, show emotion and enable us to return in the future to that moment.
The seasons change, children grow but photographs can tell many stories from that particular stage in life.
As well as documenting my own family I get such joy from being able to capture these moments for others, to show the bonds between loved ones, the way they look at each other, the way they laugh, interact and play.
I like to capture photos out on a walk; you can chat, play and be yourselves, leave me to take images of the laughter, muddy wellies and the relationships. I like to encourage real laughter and smiles, rather than forced ones, I will get involved, play silly games, get to know you and, as a result, I hope that the character of each person can shine through the photos I give you.
I am also happy to come into your home and take pictures of those everyday moments to capture this stage in life, whether it is with a newborn baby, the chaos of older children or a different life stage entirely, if you want to capture these moments then please get in touch.
